A Centralia man arrested in October for multiple alleged domestic violence offenses and charged with over 20 witness tampering charges in November now faces an additional felony case for allegedly breaking off pieces of his wheelchair and sharpening them into knives.

On Sunday, the Lewis County Jail notified deputies with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office that an inmate, Telor Maclin, 29, had made a knife and was keeping it in his cell, according to court documents.

Jail staff reportedly searched Maclin’s cell “because he was refusing to comply with his medication pass” and found two sharpened pieces of metal on Maclin’s bed, one hidden inside Maclin’s face mask and one hidden underneath a laundry bag.

Both objects appeared to be “part of the braking system” for Maclin’s wheelchair, according to court documents.

Jail staff confirmed Maclin was the only person staying in the cell and was the only one with access to the wheelchair, according to court documents.

The first metal object had a plastic handle on one end and was metal on the other, with the edges on the metal end shaved down to create “sharp edges all the way around.” The second metal object was all metal and “appeared to be sharp and jagged,” per court documents.

Deputies who inspected the metal objects reportedly “indicated a belief that both these items are capable of inflicting serious bodily injury,” according to court documents.

Maclin was charged with one count of weapon possession by a prisoner, which is a class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Jail records indicate Maclin was initially arrested by the Centralia Police Department for several Centralia Municipal Court cases, one Lewis County District Court case and two felony cases: one from a June 2021 incident where he allegedly dragged a woman by her hair into a residence, and one from an August 2021 incident where he allegedly grabbed a different woman by the throat.

Maclin was charged Nov. 4 with one count of tampering with a witness, domestic violence, and 22 counts of violation of a court order, domestic violence, for allegedly repeatedly contacting the victim in the August 2021 felony case and telling her to withdraw her statement.

“He keeps getting arrested even though he hasn’t been released and the state is concerned,” said Deputy Prosecutor Scott Jackson at Maclin’s preliminary appearance hearing for the new charge on Monday, where he asked a judge to set a $500,000 bail on top of the bail set in Maclin’s other cases.

The judge granted that bail request, as well as a request from jail staff to have Maclin restrained during future court hearings due to concerns about Maclin’s “recent activity” at the jail and his fashioning of a weapon.

Combined with the bails set in all of his other cases, Maclin would have to post over $1.1 million bail to be released.

“I know that (Maclin) is trying to post all the other (bails) but with great difficulty,” said defense attorney Rachael Tiller.
