With headquarters in Barcelona, Stark Future unveiled their first electric bike – the Stark VARG ... [+] motocross model – on December 14th. Within 24 hours almost a thousand units of pre-orders were placed from around the world, briefly crashing the Stark Future website.

At $11,900, the Stark VARG isn’t exactly the world’s cheapest motocross bike, but it might be the world’s coolest, especially when it comes to electric.

With an impressive 80 hp and 938 Nm of torque, the VARG has 30% more horsepower and more than double the torque of any 450cc four-stroke on the market. The motorcycle can be adapted to any skill level using a smartphone dash and motorcycle set-up app, allowing the VARG to mimic bikes from a 125cc two-stroke up to a 650cc four-stroke. The horsepower can be adjusted from 1 to 80 hp in seconds.

The app also allows you to create up to 100 ride modes, where you can adjust the power curve, engine braking, traction control, and more according to your riding style. Five modes come actively installed on the bike.

With an ultra-small and light chassis using carbon fiber, magnesium, and aero grade aluminum, the VARG weighs 242 pounds (110 kg), making it one of the most lightweight off-road motorcycles available. It also has a near-silent motor, which Stark Future boasts as being more outdoor and sustainable-friendly.

With a more straightforward ride setup and less maintenance required than a traditional gas-powered motorcycle, the battery is one of the critical aspects of the VARG, with a capacity of 6kWh and weighing less than 72 pounds (32 kg). Stark claims the range will be similar to a 450cc motocross bike with a full tank and will comfortably accommodate a full ‘moto’ at Grand-Prix-intensity. On more leisurely trail riding days, the VARG will be capable of rides up to six hours. The bike will fully recharge in 1-2 hours, depending on the charger and power outlet. With no emissions or filters, they say the bike requires no more maintenance than a bicycle.

The silent heart of the Stark VARG is the engine and powertrain, providing 80 hp – 30% more than any ... [+] 450 – and with double the amount of torque.

With gas prices on the rise and fewer spare parts required for maintenance, the VARG might have a hefty upfront price tag, but it sounds like it will even out in the long run.

If you compare the VARG to one of the most popular electric off-road motorbikes already on the market, the Cake Kalk OR boasts 15 hp, 280 Nm of torque, weighs 152 pounds (69 kg), and has a ride range of up to three hours. The Kalk OR costs $13,000.

Pre-sale orders for the Stark VARG are set to start shipping in June 2022.
